Iowa House proposes midyear funding cuts
A deappropriations bill for the current fiscal year released by the Iowa House of Representatives Feb. 7 would cut $8.1 million to the state Board of Regents. The bill still needs to work its way through the normal committee and full House debate and voting process.
The Iowa Senate previously proposed cutting $6.9 million to Iowa State, nearly $8.7 million to the University of Iowa and $3.7 million to the University of Northern Iowa.
"Proposals for lower FY2018 reductions are encouraging," said board of regents executive director Mark Braun in a statement. "We will continue to work with the General Assembly and the Governor as the legislative process moves forward."
