Iowa State recognized nationally for community engagement efforts

Iowa State has earned reclassification as a "Community Engaged University" from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The 10-year reclassification recognizes Iowa State's commitment to community engagement through teaching and learning, research, extension and outreach, and economic development programs.

"Iowa State is proud of its many community partnerships, from our strong town/gown relationship with the City of Ames, to our new partnership with two Des Moines elementary schools to improve college affordability and access, and our international commitment to help Ugandan farmers grow sustainable crops," said President Steven Leath. "These partnerships are significant because they reflect our land-grant ideals of education, research and economic development, and sharing our expertise to make Iowa and the world a better place."

Canfield receives Humboldt Research Award

Paul Canfield, Distinguished Professor and the Robert Allen Wright Professor of Physics and Astronomy, has received a Humboldt Research Award from Germany's Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The award recognizes a researcher's achievements to date, with the expectation of more to come.

Osterberg receives humanitarian award

Arvid Osterberg, University Professor of architecture, received the 2014 Ames Humanitarian Award from the Ames Human Relations Commission. The award recognizes residents who help promote inclusiveness, fairness and equality for everyone in the Ames community. Osterberg is a strong advocate for inclusive design that meets the needs of all people regardless of physical, cognitive or cultural differences. He has devoted much of his career to helping design and planning professionals, government officials and students decipher and implement the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.

Joey George receives IS achievement award

January 12, 2015

Joey George, professor of information systems and the John D. DeVries Endowed Chair in Business in the College of Business, received the 2014 award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in Information Systems from the Association for Information Systems. Award recipients "are esteemed for their exemplary professional and personal integrity and for their lifelong service to the field of IS."
