Halbur named top vet
Dr. Pat Halbur, the Dr. Stephen G. Juelsgaard interim dean of Veterinary Medicine, was named the Veterinarian of the Year by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.
Oesterreich receives national excellence award
Lesia Oesterreich, family life extension state specialist, received the 2018 Excellence in Extension Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Cooperative Extension and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The award, given to just one Cooperative Extension professional, recognizes excellence in programming, visionary leadership and a positive impact on the constituents he or she serves.
Sukup elected to national academy
Charles Sukup, associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering and president of Sukup Manufacturing Co., Sheffield, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering "for contributions to the design and manufacturing of agricultural equipment for grain handling and storage." Elected in February, Sukup will be recognized Sept. 30 during the academy's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
Sturm chosen for studio teacher award
Jonathan Sturm, professor of music, received the 2018 Leopold LaFosse Outstanding Studio Violin Teacher award in the state of Iowa. The annual award, given by the Iowa String Teachers Association, goes to private string teachers who have made a lasting impact on students in their private studios through their teaching and mentorship. Many of Sturm's students have won competitions, performed with orchestras in the Midwest, won prominent chairs in the Iowa All-State orchestra, or graduated to attend major music schools over the past 28 years.
