Lucht receives annual 'best article' award
Dees receives research fellowship
Sarah Dees, assistant professor of American religions, received a 2022-23 American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship from the American Association of University Women. Recipients of AAUW grants and fellowships pursue academic work and lead innovative community projects to empower women and girls. Dees' fellowship year is devoted to finishing her first book, which examines Smithsonian research on Native American religions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Pease recognized for decades of environmental service
Jim Pease, associate professor emeritus of natural resources ecology and management, received the 2022 Lawrence and Eula Hagie Heritage Award from the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. The award recognizes Iowans who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to improving the quality of Iowa's natural environment and encouraging others to do the same. Pease taught wildlife interpretation courses and served as statewide extension wildlife specialist for 24 years, retiring in 2008. He continues to work with numerous private and government conservation units to develop programming and resources for the public.
Cunningham recognized for national committee work
Brandy Cunningham, youth and volunteer programs manager for the office of risk management, received the 2022 Committee Member of the Year award from the Higher Education Protection Network (HEPNet). The award recognizes an individual for exemplary acts of service, leadership among peers and "going above and beyond in committee service." Cunningham served as co-chair for this year's HEPNet conference, which partnered with the University Risk Management and Insurance Association to share learning opportunities.
