New granite steps at the south entrance to Carrie Chapman Catt Hall opened the last week in January after about a year of non-use due to questions about the integrity of the staircase. The steps were closed in January 2011, pending an engineer's assessment and repair plan. In September, demolition of the former steps uncovered deterioration of the support columns underneath.
